July 8th, 2010

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition recently suggested that “sleep restriction may be one of the environmental factors that contributes to the obesity epidemic.” Their study showed that normal-weight individuals consumed several hundred extra calories a day when they had gotten just 4 hours of sleep compared to a full eight hours.

In addition, cortisol (stress hormone) rises with lack of sleep and growth hormone (youth hormone) declines!!!

Yes! Sleep is an important factor in overall wellness!!!
