Have you tried Krankcycle???
Johnny G’s done it again!!! Krankcycle is the brainchild of Spinning founder Johnny G and it’s picking up momentum (pun intended) across the country!
It’s a great cardiovascular and upper body workout!!! Don’t be surprised by how difficult it feels at first. The fact that your arms are closer to your heart makes it a tougher cardio workout…
Give it a try!!!
SHAPE Magazine TRX…
Get moving!!!
Ok, if you think this looks life threatening, try not moving at all!!! New research shows that even light or moderate exercise can substantially reduce your risk of early death!!!
Walk, ride a bike, do something! Although more physical activity is better, the benefits of even minimal amounts of exercise are still greater than none at all!!!
Stay Hydrated!!!
The summer heat is upon us and also time to pay extra attention to staying hydrated. Dehydration can take place quickly and can be dangerous, even fatal. It occurs when too much water is lost from the body, not enough is taken in, or both. We lose water are through breathing out (this is one of the reasons to drink continuously while flying), sweating and urinating.
Some of the signs of dehydration can include a dry mouth, less sweating, muscle cramps, palpitations, dark yellow urine, lightheadedness (especially when standing), nausea and vomiting. Confusion, weakness and even loss of consciousness can occur when dehydration is severe.
Small frequent amounts of oral fluid replacement are recommended for any signs of dehydration. Clear fluid options may include water, fruit juices and electrolyte-containing replacement fluids like Pedialyte or Gatorade. The average adult needs 2 to 3 liters of fluids a day; if dehydrated, more may be needed. For severe symptoms, including confusion, lethargy or coma, it is advisable to go to the emergency room or call 911.
Try to prevent dehydration by not planning outdoor activities during the hottest times of the day, usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. While outdoors, find shaded areas as frequently as possible and wear weather appropriate clothing for maximum cooling. Hydrate often, every 15 minutes of exercise.
Yoga pose of the day!!!
Inversions (headstands) positively influence four major systems in the body: cardiovascular, lymphatic, nervous, and endocrine.
Inversions reverse the action of gravity on the body; instead of everything being pulled towards the feet, the orientation shifts towards the head. Some of the benefits include improved health, reduced anxiety and stress and increased self-confidence. They also increase mental power, concentration and stimulate the chakras.
This particular pose (shown left) also strengthens the low back, core and increases flexibility of the hamstrings… Give it a try!!!
Post-Exercise Relief with Ginger!!!
Ginger has long been used for medicinal purposes, primarily for soothing nausea and easing stomach upset and dizziness. But ginger, is also a natural immune system booster with anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties which may aid with muscle related injuries after exercising. Nature’s pain reliever!!!
Most recent studies confirm that it’s also great for promoting cardiovascular health…
More on Zinc!!!
Recent studies suggest that Zinc deficiencies might be associated with oxidative stress and chronic inflammation which are main causes of diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes and cancers.
Zinc has been found to contain antioxidant, antiinflammatory properties which are protective against many diseases.
Big change starts small!!!
One of the things I enjoy most about Europe is the bicycle culture that exists everywhere! Many people ride bike to and from work and also around their cities taking care of their daily needs which not only benefits them, but the world as well… Big change starts with an individual! This is one habit we should all be quick to adopt…
Thoughts…
Getting up extra early for a workout might suck for a second but
once your workout is over you feel AMAZING all day long
(the remaining 8,639 seconds)!!!
What are you waiting for???
Newton Running!!!
Because you can…
Walking still has the highest rate of compliance of any exercise program! It’s simple, low impact, doesn’t require expensive equipment and has many great health benefits including reduced risk of heart disease, increased energy levels, reduced blood pressure, reducing risk of stroke, improved muscular endurance, to name a few…
Try 30-45 minutes daily! Because you can…
Cranberry Juice!!!
The next time you toast…raise a glass of Cranberry Juice and enjoy the same blood lowering benefits found in red wine in an alcohol-free alternative…
Cranberry juice also protects against urinary and kidney infections. They’re also known for their anti-viral activity and their amazing anti-oxidant capacity.
I love mine with a splash of lemon (actually 1 whole lemon)…
